The Turning Point

Project Nuka is named in loving memory and honor of Tia Norma "Nuka" Cordova. She was a lifelong champion for the vulnerable—a beautiful soul who rescued and cared for countless innocent, unloved, and forgotten animals. Carrying her torch of unconditional compassion, Project Nuka ensures that her legacy lives on through every senior and medical dog we protect.

Our Vision for Limestone County

Project Nuka was born out of necessity on the rural roads of Limestone County, Texas. Day after day, we witnessed the devastating reality of the local animal dumping epidemic. Driven to take action, we began rescuing these abandoned souls, quickly facing a heartbreaking systemic wall: local shelters were completely full, an exhausting and near-impossible hurdle in this region.

Even worse, we discovered that dogs with severe medical needs or advanced age had almost zero chance of being taken in by traditional facilities. Facing immediate euthanasia in crowded pounds, these innocent animals had nowhere left to turn.

We refused to look away. We chose to open our own home and our family’s five acres of land to these vulnerable creatures, taking them in ourselves and providing the specialized medical dependence care and hospice support they drastically needed.

In Honor of a True Rescuer

While our sanctuary is starting small—currently providing an absolute haven for our resident pack of six cherished rescues—our blueprint for the future is built to create lasting regional change.

We are actively raising support and building partnerships to bring four critical initiatives to life:

  • Expanding Our Infrastructure: Constructing safe, specialized, and secure housing facilities on our acreage to expand our capacity and bring even more at-risk babies out of danger.

  • A Safe Landing Pad: Creating a community surrender program so families facing impossible situations have a safe, compassionate alternative to dumping an animal in unsafe conditions.

  • Community Education: Launching local resources to directly combat the root causes of the rural dumping epidemic through awareness, accountability, and compassion.

  • The Project Nuka Pet Pantry: Establishing a judgment-free community pet food and supply pantry to support local families experiencing financial hardship, keeping beloved furbabies fed and securely in their homes.

Every animal deserves to grow old wrapped in safety, dignity, and love. At Project Nuka, we are dedicated to building that reality right here in Groesbeck.
